Band Collects Refundable Bottles

The Newtown High School Band held its monthly bottle recycling collection at the corner of Church Hill Road and Queen Street on Saturday. The collection, which is held the second Tuesday of each month, raises between $10,000 and $20,000 a year to help pay for rental trucks, buses, and extra equipment when the band travels, according to band parent Chet Janutolo, who supervised Saturday’s collection. There are also drop-off stations at the town’s recycling center, Stop & Shop, and behind Newtown Hardware.
