Erwin N. Potter,

Extraordinary Friend

To the Editor:

I noted with great sadness the passing of Erwin Potter in last week’s Bee. There are rare times when we come across someone who is an example of an ideal friend and neighbor. Erwin was that important. He exemplified and put into practice all the qualities we want from our children when they grow up. To be responsible and caring adults.

If his business accomplishments weren’t enough, Erwin gave back to his family, his community, and humanity more than we could ever ask. He wanted so much for Newtown and contributed his time, energy, intelligence, expertise, and honesty as his health would allow. I knew the depth of his illness over the last five years, yet he was there to contribute when asked because he loved Newtown and always wanted to help make it a better place.

I consider myself fortunate to have known Erwin and to have called him my friend. We will all miss his presence as he was one-of-a-kind guy. Bon voyage mon ami.
