Freshmen – Joe Greenfield, Cody Shpunt and Joe DeVellis caught touchdown passes and Kevin Regan ran in a punt for a touchdown to lead the Newtown High School freshman football team to a 28-16 win over New Milford. Newtown scored the first four TDs of the game, the offense moving with a strong passing game led by quarterback Tucker Kass. New Milford rallied late, scoring two touchdowns to narrow the gap.

Jayvees – Bill Beatty and Steve Kean scored the touchdowns that led the Newtown High School junior varsity football team to a 14-8 win over New Milford. Kean scored from 26 yards out to give the ‘Hawks a 14-0 lead. Mathew Berquist, Kevin Silber, and James Wiedemann played well on defense.

Girls Soccer

 

Freshmen – Darcy Fiscella scored a pair of unassisted goals to lead the Newtown High School freshmen girls’ soccer team to a 2-0 win over Pomperaug. Goaltender Jessica Halloran earned the shutout for the frosh, who pushed their record to 1-3-3 with the win.

Jayvees – Jen Greenwood, Mary Grace Ober and Kaitlyn Ferguson scored the goals that lifted the Newtown High School jayvee girls’ soccer team to a 3-0 win over Bunnell. Sara Peters and Rose Jackman had assists and goaltender Jess Halloran earned the shutout. The jayvees have outscored their opponents 30-2 in amassing an 8-1-0 record.
