Have A ‘Merry’ Time

This Weekend

Merryhill Child Care Center, 49 Queen Street, will be holding its third annual Touch-A-Truck and Fall Fair Saturday, October 18, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Proceeds will help the nonprofit daycare center raise money to renovate the children’s playground area.

The main attraction will be the Touch-A-Truck, which will include a fire engine, police car, school bus, and racecar. In addition, children can enjoy horse rides, a moon bounce, play tattoos, sand art, and make-your-own Halloween magnets.

The Newtown Police Department will also be on hand, providing Kid ID kits and booster seat safety information kits to interested parents.

There will also be two free wildlife shows, at noon and 2 pm. “The community has been so generous to our center that we wanted to give something back,” said Cheri Ross, fundraising chairperson. “These wildlife shows are our way of saying thank you to all the wonderful families and local businesses who support our school and volunteer their time to Merryhill.”

Finally, the center will be holding its second annual Cow Chip Raffle the day of the event. For $5, fairgoers can purchase one-square foot of land in a 50-square-foot pasture, where a cow will be left to graze. If the cow “chip” lands on your square, you win! First prize is $500, second prize $250, and third prize $100.

“We are sincerely hoping that a lot of people will come and join us for the Touch-A-Truck event and all of the other fun family activities at our Fall Fair,” said Michelle Kean, director of Merryhill.

For more information, or to purchase raffle tickets, contact Cheri Ross at 364-1660.
