Huntingtown Road Bridge To Close Oct. 23 For Two Months
Newtown Public Works Director Fred Hurley announced this week that the bridge on Huntingtown Road, about a quarter mile south of Orchard Hill Road, will be closed for about two months for reconstruction.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic on October 23. The town hopes to reopen the bridge by Christmas, according to Mr Hurley.
It will take about two weeks to demolish the old bridge, Mr Hurley said, noting that the longest part of the process will be pouring and curing the concrete footings for the new bridge. Then a precast superstructure will be added.
The new arched span will be larger, and more importantly, safer that the current bridge, the public works director said.
