Newtown High School Scholarships

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship — High School juniors with a minimum GPA of 2.75 who have special leadership talent and may have overcome obstacles and given back to their communities are encouraged to apply. Nine $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in each state and nine $25,000 scholarships nationwide. The awards may be used for any type of postsecondary education or training. Applications are available in the Career Center or may be downloaded from www.discovercard.com/tribue.htm. Deadline is January 9.

Ted Martocchio Scholarship (Building and Trades Union) — High School seniors who have been accepted to one of Connecticut’s state universities (WCSU, CCSU, ECSU, or SCSU) may apply for this $1,000 scholarship. Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 2.75, demonstrate community service, be a Connecticut resident and a child of a Building and Trades Union member. Deadline is April 30.

Pratt and Whitney Scholarship — This $1,000 scholarship is for a graduating senior who has been accepted to Eastern Connecticut State University. Requirements include a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated interest and/or excellence in science or technology, and demonstrated financial need. Deadline is April 30, 2004.

T. Clark Hull Public Service Scholarship — A $500 award for a graduating senior who has been accepted to Southern Connecticut State University. Requirements include a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated interest and/or excellence in science or technology, and demonstrated financial need. Deadline is April 30.
