Hand-Colored Photographs By Laurie Klein

DANBURY — Sadelier will be exhibiting hand colored photographs by the celebrated Brookfield photographer Laurie Klein from October 18 until December 29. A reception to meet the artist will be held on Saturday, October 18, from 3 to 6 pm.

Internationally known for her portrait photography, Ms Klein will also give a talk at Sadelier on Friday, November 14, at 7 pm, about her work and her infectious quest to produce great art.

Ms Klein first picked up a camera at age 16 as a student at Brookfield High School and soon began winning photographic awards on a national level. She was a protégé of the famous photographer Ansel Adams and has received numerous local and national awards for her fine art over the past two decades.

Her photos are often hand-colored, black and white images that range from landscapes to portraits. Laurie has a unique ability to capture subtle moments of intimacy and beauty with her moving, romantic style.

Her “Life-Journey” photography includes weddings, pregnancies, babies, childhood, siblings, generations, anniversaries, pets, and other significant moments in time. Sadelier will be exhibiting a series of beautiful hand-colored, floral and landscape photographs that would make any home something special.

Laurie Klein’s images have been featured in numerous publications including New Yorker, Ladies Home Journal, PPA Professional Photographers of America Magazine, Brides, Modern Bride, Martha Stewart Living, and The New York Times. She has also been featured on the Lifetime and Discovery Networks.

Her photographs have been exhibited internationally and are in leading museum collections. Additionally, Laurie Klein is a university instructor and the author of Hand Coloring Black & White Photography: An Introduction and Step-By-Step Guide. The book was released in July 1999 by North Light Books and quickly became the quintessential book on hand-coloring. It is now a standard in many college programs.

Located at 69 West Wooster Street, Sadelier is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 am to 5 pm, Friday 11 am to 6 pm, and Monday by appointment. Call 743-4830 or visit www.sadelier.com for directions and further information.
