The Role Of Genetics In Alzheimer's Disease
The Role Of Genetics
In Alzheimerâs Disease
NEW MILFORD â As new genetic information on Alzheimerâs disease becomes available, there is increasing confusion about the implications for Alzheimerâs patients and family members. Many questions are raised including, âIs there an Alzheimerâs disease gene?â âWhat if people in my family have Alzheimerâs disease?â âCan a genetic test predict whether I will get Alzheimerâs disease?â and âWhat do I need to know before I consider genetic testing?â
On Wednesday, November 5, from 5:30 to 7 pm, a program addressing these issues will be held at New Milford Hospital in the Robison Conference Rooms. Genetic Counselor Susan LaRusse, from Taub Alzheimerâs Disease Research Center, Columbia University, will introduce basic terms and concepts in genetics, and will provide clear and accurate information about the state of genetic research in Alzheimerâs disease.
Ms LaRusse will also discuss the personal and social issues that need to be considered by anyone thinking of genetic testing.
This program, sponsored by New Milford Hospital, the Alzheimerâs Association, and Taub Alzheimerâs Disease Research Center, Columbia University, is free and open to the public. Preregistration is requested by calling 860-350-7215.
