The Role Of Genetics

In Alzheimer’s Disease

NEW MILFORD — As new genetic information on Alzheimer’s disease becomes available, there is increasing confusion about the implications for Alzheimer’s patients and family members. Many questions are raised including, “Is there an Alzheimer’s disease gene?” “What if people in my family have Alzheimer’s disease?” “Can a genetic test predict whether I will get Alzheimer’s disease?” and “What do I need to know before I consider genetic testing?”

On Wednesday, November 5, from 5:30 to 7 pm, a program addressing these issues will be held at New Milford Hospital in the Robison Conference Rooms. Genetic Counselor Susan LaRusse, from Taub Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Columbia University, will introduce basic terms and concepts in genetics, and will provide clear and accurate information about the state of genetic research in Alzheimer’s disease.

Ms LaRusse will also discuss the personal and social issues that need to be considered by anyone thinking of genetic testing.

This program, sponsored by New Milford Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Taub Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Columbia University, is free and open to the public. Preregistration is requested by calling 860-350-7215.
