Treadwell Park Playgrounds Dedicated

The Treadwell Park Playgrounds were officially dedicated last week.

Although the playgrounds have been open for more than a year, the signs thanking the donors and the many volunteers who assembled the playgrounds have only recently been put in place, completing the project.

First Selectman Herb Rosenthal spoke of the value to Newtown of all the dedicated volunteers we have in town. He commended Tammy Marks for single-handedly beginning this campaign about five years ago.

Parks and Recreation Director Barbara Kasbarian spoke of the hard work of the Lions Club in raising funds for the playgrounds and then spending many hours assembling them. She also introduced Pat Moffat, widow of Ron Moffat. Ron was in charge of maintenance for all Newtown Parks and did so much in preparing the ground for these playgrounds.

Paul Arneth, current Lions Club president, spoke of the Lions involvement in this project and outlined other activities the club is pursuing.

Co-chairs Tammy Marks and Gordon Williams thanked the many volunteers who put the playground together as well as the many donors who gave contributions large and small to its construction.
