‘Wizards of Chemistry’ Will Bring Bilingual Magic To Danbury

DANBURY — Move over, Harry Potter. Some new “wizards” are about to show their tricks in Danbury.

On Saturday, October 25, the Wizards of Chemistry will appear at Borders Books & Music, 110 Federal Road, to present two children’s magic shows. The sorcery will take place at 10:30 am and noon. The shows will be free, and the public is invited. The Western Connecticut State University Latin American Student Organization (LASO) will provide Spanish translation during the performances.

The “Wizards” are WestConn Chemistry Club members who will demonstrate fun, interactive chemical activities in celebration of the American Chemical Society’s National Chemistry Week, which runs Sunday, October 19, through Saturday, October 25.

“Our intent is to truly spark a child’s interest in science,” said Dr Paula Secondo, chairman of WCSU chemistry department and advisor to the chemistry club, who coordinated the shows at Borders. “Kids are sometimes scared of science; this is a way to show them it’s fun.”

In recent years, the Chemistry Club has performed its magic show for elementary school-aged children at more than 100 schools and libraries through Connecticut and New York. Children who attend the demonstrations at Borders will receive goody bags filled with science-related items.
