Fore! â This Week At Rock Ridge Country Club
Ryder Cup Weekend
Rock Ridge Country Club held its annual Ryder Cup Tournament this past week. Over the course of the golf season, Rock Ridge tallies points based on performance in events throughout the course of the year. The four top point-earners win captaincy of a 10-man Ryder Cup style team.
Names are then drawn and teams selected, with each team having a golf professional on a squad. Five match play-style matches are played and golfers earn two points for a win and one for a tie. There are five different formats played:Â Two-man scramble, two-man Pinehurst, two-man alternate shot, two-man best ball, and singles match play.
In a very tight tournament this year with only four points separating all four teams, the Red team was victorious, scoring 32 points after a strong showing in singles match play Sunday afternoon. The Red team consisted of Captain Vincent Palumbo, Head Golf Professional Bill Flood, Mike Spicci, Tim Rahr, Dean Harvey, Cary Kortze, Sean Patrick, Bob Tendler, John OâConnor and Mike Boyle. Coming in second with 30 points in five matches was the Blue team, captained by Graham Fyffe. His team included Assistant Golf Professional Jon Phillips, Mark Curtis, Mike Portnoy, Nick Germak, Jeff Fetchick, Mike Nathenson, Len Calbo, Lou Rosamilia and Ed Sherrick.
Team Black and Team Gray tied with 28 points. Closest to the pin winners were Pat McLaughlin, hitting his shot to 5-foot-6 on Saturday and Mark Curtis who hit his tee shot to one-foot-seven into Rock Ridgeâs par 3 ninth hole.
