Regional Conservation Efforts To Be Applauded Monday During Inn At Newtown Awards Dinner
Northwest Conservation District, a regional conservation group, will honor the Newtown Energy Task Force for its leadership in moving the town toward clean renewable energy usage during the annual Northwest Conservation District Annual Awards Dinner on October 20, at 6 pm. This yearâs event will be at The Inn at Newtown. The public is invited.
Northwest Conservation District (NCD) has been working since 1953 on regional natural resource conservation but have recently added a very strong focus on energy conservation. âConservation is the first and best kind of clean renewable energy,â said Tony Mitchell, board member and leader of the NCD energy project.
Newtown was recently recognized by Governor M. Jodi Rell as the #1 community in Connecticut in clean energy usage. Dan Holmes, chairman of the Newtown Task Force, will share the story of grassroots energy, talent, and determination to make a difference in slowing global warming.
In addition to Newtownâs task force, several other groups will also be recognized for their contributions to a more sustainable future for all. Northwestern Regional School District will be honored for its plans to get one-third of its electricity from solar panels; New Milford Hospital will be celebrated for its work with Plow-To-Plate, which helps the cafeteria staff serve fresh, local, delicious food while supporting local farmers; and Flanders Nature Center will receive an award for its continued inspiration of children of all ages to appreciate and take care of the earth.
Socializing will begin at 6, with dinner to be served at 6:15. A 15-minute business meeting/presentation on NCDâs ConnVERT program will be offered at 7:15, and the Conservation Awards for Sustainable Living are to be presented at 7:30.
Tickets for full buffet dinner and awards program are $30. Reservations are requested; call 860-626-7222 or send email to JeanCronauer@ConserveCT.org.
