Signs Of The Times
Signs Of The Times
To the Editor:
I assume your readers have noticed that the Obama-Biden supporters have broken the unwritten, gentlemanâs agreement between the Republican and Democrat parties banning political lawn signs in Newtown. I have waited two weeks to write this letter, just to see if the signs were going to come down. They have not. Apparently my Democrat colleagues have no influence with the individuals who put up the signs, or the party has decided that the agreement no longer serves its purposes.
In a perverse way I am pleased, because I always felt the self-imposed ban was wrong. People should be free to express support for a candidate for office openly, and what better way than to put a lawn sign on their property.
So thank you Obama supporters. My McCain-Palin signs are going up this week.
By the way, I am not one of the five percent top income taxpayers presently, but if any of your readers believe that all of the new programs being proposed can be paid for by increasing income taxes on only the top five percent of the income taxpayers, I have a bridge over the Housatonic River (not even in Brooklyn) that I would like to sell them, only 50 million dollars, and then they could impose their own tolls and become rich.
Very truly yours,
Robert H. Hall
