Occupation: I work with students who are taking their high school diploma in the evening through Newtown Continuing Education. I worked at the front desk of the Middle School for 18 years. Then I retired and traveled. Previous to working for the school system, I was a lab technician.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown since 1968. I came here from England where I was born and raised.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: So many people, and the price and number of new houses.

Family: My husband, Brian, and I have been married for 40 years. We have two sons, David, 35, who lives in California, and Jonathan, 27, who lives in Brookfield with his wife, Jamie.

Hobbies: I like classical music, and sing with the Newtown Choral Society. I also exercise at Karen’s Fitness Center. It’s so great for women. I have volunteered for the C.H. Booth Library’s annual book sale for 25 years. I like to paint, write poetry, and travel. I also play tennis and walk. I also do the music and art program for children in the summer. I’m learning to sail, and have sailed on Long Island Sound and in the Carribean. I love the water.

Favorite Books and Authors: I enjoy reading historical novels. One book that affected me was Grapes of Wrath.

Favorite TV Show: I watch very little TV, except West Wing, Masterpiece Theatre, and nature programs.

Organizations: Newtown Choral Society. I also was involved in PTO and the Newtown Orchestra parents group when my sons were in school. I am a former member of Jaycee Wives.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: When we had the book sale at the library before the addition was built, there was this young man who would play the guitar during it. It was something very special to me.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We go to England a lot. I enjoy anywhere peaceful, quiet beaches and mountains, where I can watch the birds and other wildlife. There are many places like that, such as The Pleasance. We often take a picnic there.

Personal Philosophy: I try not to be judgmental, and treat people with respect and compassion. We should always be true to ourselves, and never let anyone take away our rights and freedoms.
