To the Editor:

This is a letter of endorsement for Shannon Tomai and Todd Higgins for the Newtown Board of Education.

Both Shannon and Todd adapted immediately to the formality and function of the Board of Education. It is obvious that their background in the legal profession enabled them to engage current issues with precision. Both have demonstrated the ability to grasp complex topics with a crystal clear way of communicating at public meetings. They also contributed greatly to bipartisan professionalism during a challenging time for the board and our town.

Both Shannon and Todd are motivated by a deep sense of servanthood absent anything resembling political ambition. They have excelled in the private sector by their values of hard work and reverence for quality education. Most important, they genuinely love kids! In terms of character, the citizenry will be very proud to call them members of the Board of Education.

As part of a seven person board to oversee a vision for educational excellence, Shannon and Todd have already gained the confidence of parents to represent the best aspirations for the future of children in Newtown. They have a keen understanding of the world around us and parents have already responded to their high caliber work. It is also amazing to see their understanding of curriculum and good teaching practices at all levels K-12!

In summary, Shannon and Todd are Newtown Treasures that will advocate for our children with honor if they are elected to continue their service for another two years.
