To the Editor:
I am writing this letter in thanks to friends and family who recently stepped up in support of my husband, Chris Vadas. This past week, Chris, who has been a 15-year veteran of the Newtown Police Department, was to appear in front of the Newtown Police Commission for a termination hearing. This hearing was not the result of any illegal, immoral, or unethical actions by my husband.
For those of you who do not know Chris or may be unaware of any details, I hope that you do not pass judgment on him by making any inaccurate assumptions about the circumstances of his situation. For those of you that do know Chris and what he has endured, thank you for all that you have done and were willing to do, as well as the constant words of support and encouragement.
After considering every option, Chris has chosen to seek employment with another police department. Although this was a very difficult decision, we feel as though it is the best decision for our familyâs future and well-being. It was not a choice of right or wrong, and had nothing to do with guilt or innocence. The last four years of our lives have been very emotionally trying, and Chrisâs decision had everything to do with choosing the shortest path to healing and moving on.
Chris has had both the honor and pleasure of serving and protecting the Newtown community for 15 years. During that time we have met some incredible people and made some life long friendships. These experiences have enriched our lives and will never be forgotten.
As for the Newtown Police Union, we cannot thank you enough. You have done a tremendous job of supporting your âbrother officerâ and our family throughout this entire unfortunate scenario. Our lives have changed because of all of you, and will not be the same without you. You will always be family to us.
With all due respect to the Newtown Police Department and the community, Chris will depart on kind terms and miss working with all of you. We wish everyone well and look forward to seeing you around town.
Most Sincerely,
Denise Vadas and family
