Several world-class musicians including the master violin and bass player Alan Brennan, the pianist Kent Hewitt, and the percussionist Edson “Café” Da Silva will accompany Ms Marlow.

In addition to the concert the fundraiser will include a pre-concert cocktail reception, a “Latin For Lyme” art gallery sale, and a post-concert reception.

NRFTD was founded in 1999 to address the significant and growing public health threat of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. Drawing on the dedication of volunteers from the tri-state area, NRFTD is the only national, non-profit organization devoted to funding innovative research at preeminent institutions.

Surveys conducted across Fairfield County indicate that Lyme disease is a growing problem affecting as many as 54 percent of households in some communities. Lyme cases nearly doubled from 1991 to 2000. Children are at highest risk for the disease.

Lyme disease is a relatively new illness; many questions surround diagnosis and treatment. Iissues are further complicated by additional emerging tick-borne infections. Because testing for all is unreliable, the risk of misdiagnosis and late-stage illness is great.

Lyme disease, when allowed to progress, has many possible manifestations, including debilitating fatigue, pain, and neurological symptoms (including disorders that resemble ADHD). According to NRFTD, research reflecting the magnitude of this health threat is urgently needed.

The mission of the NRFTD is unique in that it is the only national, nonprofit organization devoted solely to raising funds for research at preeminent academic institutions.

Ms Marlow began actively promoting Lyme disease awareness after witnessing firsthand the devastating effects the illness had on friends and neighbors. Her involvement with NRFTD blends the passion of her music with her steadfast commitment to supporting research that will eventually alleviate the suffering of those  with tick-borne diseases.

The festivities will begin at 6 pm with the opening of the “Latin for Lyme” art gallery, followed by the cocktail reception at 6:30 in the Wien Experimental Theater, the performance beginning at 8, and then the post concert artist reception to conclude the evening.

Tickets, priced from $28 to $125, may be purchased by contacting benefit co-chair Laura Sibert-Cardoza at 212-576-1160 or the Quick Center at 203-254-4010. Donations may be sent to NRFTD, Inc.,  PO Box 643, Wilton CT 06897
