To the Editor:
Last spring we started attending the Board of Education meetings. We were surprised at the many different aspects of education these members had to be aware of. They went from personnel and buildings down to textbooks. When they asked for approval on textbooks at one of the meetings, Andrew Buzzi said he had read them and had a problem with the section on the Bill of Rights in the history textbook. I was so surprised that he had found the time to study these textbooks. That is just one example of the dedication we have observed over these past seven months.
As the problems occurred with the new busing system, Andrew was there. He went to the school meetings and took time away from his law practice to see how the buses came and left schools so he could understand the problems and parental comments.
The initial contract between the town and our company proved to be detrimental to the town. We met with Andrew Buzzi to see if in his opinion the board would be open to restructuring our contract. He met and spoke to us several times over the past month. One Monday night we met with the finance director, superintendent of schools, and Andrew Buzzi to come up with a proposal that will fit Newtownâs transportation as well as budget needs. It is being typed up and will be presented to the board members shortly.
Andrew Buzzi cares about the students. He cares about their transportation, what they are learning, and their safety. He asks many pointed questions before he makes decisions. He is fair and listens to all sides of an issue. He is truly dedicated and will spend as much time as it takes to get the answers he needs to make his decisions. The Board of Education needs Andrew Buzzi and so do the students and taxpayers of Newtown.
Please remember to vote on November 4 and cast your ballot for Andrew Buzzi.
Sincerely,
Michelle Voight,
