Fairfield University Associate Professor Suzanne Hetzel Campbell of Sandy Hook was appointed to the position of associate dean for academic programs at Fairfield University's School of Nursing. Dr Campbell is the project director of the Fairfield
 Fairfield University Associate Professor Suzanne Hetzel Campbell of Sandy Hook was appointed to the position of associate dean for academic programs at Fairfield Universityâs School of Nursing. Dr Campbell is the project director of the Fairfield University School of Nursing Robin Kanarek Learning Resource Center, a cutting edge simulation teaching facility that is considered one of the schoolâs major achievements. In her new role, Dr Campbell will be working with the dean to oversee the schoolâs undergraduate, graduate, and second-degree programs. She will continue to teach, and encourage scholarship among School of Nursing faculty. Dr Campbell has participated in a number of the schoolâs grant-funded research projects, often serving as a team leader, and she has played key roles in the school being awarded grants. Under her direction, the school received a grant of $100,000 earlier this year for the Learning Resource Center from the Connecticut Health and Education Facilities Authority.
Dr Campbellâs responsibilities include being Ireland Country Coordinator for the schoolâs study abroad program with the National University of Ireland in Galway, where she consults with faculty on research and scholarly development. She has also been charged with overseeing matters involving the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accreditation. She was awarded the 2008 Fairfield University School of Nursing Advisory Board Faculty Member Award; and a 2008 Connecticut Quality Improvement Silver Innovation Award, among other honors. Published in numerous journals, she is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and serves as director-at-large for the International Lactation Consultant Association.
Margaret Proctor of Sandy Hook was awarded a bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude, at Wellesley College on May 30. Margaret was one of approximately 600 graduates at Wellesley, the nationâs leading college for women. She double majored in English and Middle Eastern studies and is now pursuing a masterâs degree in Near Eastern studies at Princeton University. While at Wellesley, her activities included performing in the Celtic music group Fiddleheads, theater technical work, tutoring students in Arabic, and playing the bagpipes at various public events, including graduation. She spent her junior year at Oxford University, Oxford, England, studying English and history. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa on May 29. She graduated from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Mass., in 2004, and is the daughter of Michael Proctor and Anne Peters of Sandy Hook.
Nicholas Allred, a Wooster School student in his senior year and a Sandy Hook resident, has been named as a semifinalist in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 16,000 semifinalist students throughout the nation were recognized for their exceptional academic progress.
Mary Lopiccolo, a Lauralton Hall student in her senior year, has been named a semifinalist in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Candice Alexandria Woods of Sandy Hook has been selected to the Freshman Leadership Council of Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J. The Freshman Leadership Council serves as an intense leadership training experience for first year students at the university. Candice was one of 30 freshmen selected from more than 200 candidates. She is also a member of the Slavic Club and Mock Trial Team at the university, and she is a 2008 graduate from Newtown High School.
