Christmas Shoebox Ministry Launched
Christmas Shoebox Ministry Launched
SHERMAN â The Missions Committee of The Sherman Church has once again launched Operation Christmas Child, an shoebox ministry to needy children around the world.
The church has contributed nearly 70 shoeboxes each year as part of Samaritanâs Purse distribution of gift-filled boxes in some 100 countries. More than 7.6 million were given out in 2007 by all of the churches participating in the program.
Anyone who would like to be part of this program may fill a shoebox (or pick up a clear plastic shoebox at the church to fill) with school items, toiletries, gifts and writing materials. Fliers listing items needed and the ages of children included are available at the Sherman IGA, Route 39 North, and the Sherman Library, 1 Sherman Center.
The shoeboxes can be returned to the church on Sunday, October 26, after the worship service, or can be dropped off at the church office during the week of October 27â31.
Anyone wishing to donate to the effort may send a check for $7 per box made out to Samaritanâs Purse c/o The Sherman Church, 6 Church Road, Sherman CT 06784. For further information, contact Claire Siebert at 746-1797.
