Disabilities In The Wake

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter to express my feelings regarding the opposition the Leaps of Faith Water Ski Club is getting from the Lake Zoar Authority. I completely support the efforts of the club not only for my son, but the many other disabled persons who benefit from this incredible program.

I know it does present some inconvenience to the Lake Zoar Authority, but I wish that the members would just take into consideration that the inconvenience is only on occasional weekends during the summer months and brings so much excitement to people who normally would not have the opportunity to experience the joy of water skiing.

I have a 16-year-old son who is disabled. There are very few activities here in Connecticut which afford him the opportunity to get out and have fun and be like a normal teen. This program does give him the opportunity to forget about his disability for a little while and to experience what able bodied individuals and the members of the Lake Zoar Authority take for granted.

I am asking for the support of the Newtown citizens along with the Lake Zoar Authority to do whatever possible to help Leaps of Faith continue providing a safe and fun-filled day to people who have disabilities.

Sincerely,

Lori Smarz
