Grades 2-3
Southern Duchess Green 20, Newtown 12: Josh Dunn took the ball from QB Ryan Kost and scored behind the blocking of Alex Street, Ryan Campbell and Owen Walsh for an early 6-0 lead. Southern Douchess Green scored the next 20 points. Throughout the game, blocking by Jack Hannan, Dan Badiola, Jacob Duffy, Brandon Giglio and Tim Shaw gave Newtown opportunities to score but Newtown was unable to capitalize and turned the ball over each time. On defense, Michael Garner, Simon Preston, Riley McCafferty and AJ Salaris played well. Late in the fourth quarter Dunn scored behind the blocking of Will Stenz and Ryan Williams.
Grade 4
Southern Dutchess Packers 20: Newtown Nighthawks 6: The Packers scored a touchdown in the first quarter, but a tackle by Adam Bell prevented the extra point conversion. Despite multiple tackles by Joseph Accousti and Anthony Falbo, the Packers offense persevered.
A successful 25-yard pass from Mitchell Savoca to Colin McCafferty got the Nighthawks a first down, but they ended the first half scoreless. Justin Dunn and Henry Korth played well on defense.
In the fourth quarter, with stellar blocking by Erik Benson, Christopher Febbraio and Liam Garrison, Mitchell Savoca threw a 20-yard pass to Bobby Haskins, who scored the Nighthawkâs only touchdown on a fourth and 20.
Grade 5
Ridgefield 6, Newtown Blue 0: The Nighthawk defense forced 4 turnovers. Tackles were made by Devin Luzietti (8), James Burdette (6), Andrew Svanda (5), Sam Duffy (4), and Nick Samuelson (6). Geoff Santore and Matt Meyers shutdown Ridgefieldâs outside game, as they recorded four tackles apiece. The defensive line was anchored by Ryan McIntyre, Conner Flint, John Reardon, and Matt Pindell. Santore recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass and Burdette and Colin Theis recovered fumbles. Newtown moved the ball behind the running of Luzietti and Svanda. Matt Elias caught a pass from Matt Maturo deep in Ridgefield territory but Newtownâs comeback effort fell short.
Grade 6
Newtown 28, Hudson Valley 7: Newtownâs offense compiled 268 yards, with 238 yards coming on the ground. Tim Krapf and Nick Lotrecchiano pulled down two receptions. QB Troy Fragione and Bubba Condon both found the end zone on the run for points after and Tim Krapf booted an extra point to bring the score to 28.
The Newtown defensive efforts were led by Nick Rubino with nine tackles and Bubba Condon and Colton Smith with eight stops each. Sugar Shane Quimby closed off Hudson Valleyâs attempts to get to the outside with six tackles. Connor Roche had two sacks and Krapf and Jake Lambert each recorded a sack. Kevin Ross and Krapf forced fumbles.
