Library Series On Special Needs
C.H. Booth Library will host a series for parents, teachers, and adults to address concerns surrounding developmental delays in childrenâs speech, social skills or learning.
The three-part series will be moderated by Joan Nash, a Newtown resident, school psychologist, and special education teacher who has worked with special needs students for more than 20 years. Programs begin at 7 pm.

October 28:Â âIs Something Wrong?â Speech pathologist Mary Connell, social worker Rose Coladarci, special education teacher Nonna Neal, and occupational therapist Lynn Friebel will outline the developmental stages in primary age children and identify signs that may indicate intervention is necessary.
November 18:Â âHow do I Find Help?â Charlie Manos, director of pupil services for Danbury Schools, and Ann Rose, child advocate, attorney, and mother of two special needs children, will discuss how parents can get testing, evaluation, and services in and outside the public school system.
December 2:Â âEnrichment Therapies: The Arts, Games, and Play.â Ms Friebel, music therapist Barbara Baker, aquatic therapist Gina Bradbury, and pediatric occupational and recreational therapist Cindy Freedman will discuss therapies that can help address the developmental issues that concern parents and their children.
Ms Nash will also contribute her experience using games she has created that help children acquire and improve their social skills.
