Lunch And Learn Set—

Third Rehab ‘Reunion’ Held At Ashlar

In May 2004, Ashlar of Newtown dedicated a new short-term rehabilitation program at the skilled nursing facility on Toddy Hill Road. Since that time, scores of patients have benefited from the positive, encouraging environment and medical and personal care they received from professionals who staff the 32-bed rehab unit.

To continue to celebrate the success of Ashlar of Newtown’s rehabilitation program, and give “graduates” the opportunity to reconnect with other patients and employees, all former and current patients and their families were invited to attend the third annual Rehab Reunion, held on the grounds at Ashlar of Newtown recently.

The luau-themed event encouraged invitees to “bring the whole family” and featured a cotton candy machine, blowup jumper for the children, a face painter, clown, and a DJ to provide the music.

According to Joel S. Feigenson, MD, medical director for rehabilitation services at Ashlar of Newtown, patients and staff really enjoyed the camaraderie and the sharing of “success” stories by many of the patients.

“It was wonderful to see our former patients and hear how they’ve be doing since graduating from the program,” Dr Feigenson said. “We are very pleased with the great response and the positive comments received from all who attended.”

In related news, a free Lunch and Learn program for the community titled “Talking With Your Doctor: How to communicate and develop a good relationship,” will be held Wednesday, October 29, in the Lodge Room at Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living at Ashlar of Newtown.

Jennifer Tanger-King, ACSW, LCSW, regional director of counseling and complementary therapies for Connecticut VNA, will present the program. A complimentary lunch will be served at noon, followed by the program at 12:15.

Unfortunately, most people feel rushed during a doctor’s appointment and come away without getting answers to important questions they meant to ask. Knowing how to communicate with your doctor can help you make the most out of your office visits.

Ms Tanger-King will offer tips on how to best prepare for an appointment and promote a positive exchange with your physician.

Ashlar of Newtown sponsors the Lunch and Learn series to provide the public with important and timely health and wellness information. There is no fee for the program, but seating is limited.

Anyone wishing to attend should call the Masonicare HelpLine Center at 888-679-9997 to make a reservation.
