Toy Boats Recalled For Burn Hazard

HARTFORD — Product Safety Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are conducting recall effectiveness checks at retail establishments in response to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of battery operated toy “Speed Boats” manufactured in China and imported by Dollar General Merchandising Inc, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., due to burn hazard.

This product was produced in plastic and was manufactured in a variety of colors and designs. The recalled toy boat measures approximately 12 inches long and 8 inches wide and its motor uses two AA batteries. Burn hazard occurs if the two battery terminals come into contact, causing the battery to overheat and creating the potential for injury. This product was sold nationwide at Dollar General Stores from March 2008 through July 2008 for $3.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr, strongly recommends consumers check their homes for this product and if found, immediately cease using it and return product to the store where purchased for a full refund or replacement item. No injuries have been reported; however, there have been two reports of the batteries overheating.
