Democratic Headquarters Grand Opening
Welcomes State Candidates
By Kendra Bobowick
The red, white, and blue political colors spelled out support for Democrats, including State Treasurer Denise Nappier, who made a campaign stop in Newtown on October 22 during the official opening of the townâs Democratic Headquarters. The offices are located at 1 Washington Street in Sandy Hook.
Democratic party members and supporters gathered to greet gubernatorial nominee John DeStefano and also had the opportunity to shake hands with John Hartwell, treasurer for Senatorial candidate Ned Lamont. Mr Lamont has launched an aggressive campaign against incumbent Senator Joseph Lieberman.
Democratic Town Committee Campaign Chairman Chris McArdle explained that local party members hosted the afternoon open house to provide residents a chance to meet candidates seeking state offices. First Selectman Herb Rosenthal, along with longtime town party chairman Earl Smith, welcomed the incumbents and nominees who had accepted the invite. Unable to attend were Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, and Fifth Congressional District candidate Chris Murphy.
âWe certainly support all the candidates, Ned Lamont would make a wonderful senatorâ¦â said Mr Rosenthal. âThe Democrats in Newtown are strongly supporting Chris Murphy.â
Mike Daubert, the buildingâs owner, contributed the headquarters offices.
