Grateful For Support

To the Editor:

Many have submitted letters of endorsement supporting my candidacy to the Newtown Police Commission to continue my volunteer work for the benefit of Newtown.

Endorsements came from law enforcement and a retired chief of staff of the CT DMV; from unaffiliated voters, Democrats and Republicans; from a former PTA president, doctors, a state senator and representative; and from the former first selectman. They were given by people I worked with closely on committees, the Legislative Council, and other organizations. They came from friends and acquaintances, parents and grandparents.

Some spoke about the benefits to the commission my professional experience would bring. Others highlighted my volunteer experience on town councils and committees. Some touted my willingness to listen to all sides of an argument before supporting a decision. Their words of kindness are inspiring to me, and regardless of the outcome of the election, I am grateful for the outpouring of support.

About seven years ago, after ending my roughly two-year commitment to the Newtown Tick-borne Disease Action Committee, I remember approaching Pat Llodra to learn more about the Police Commission and how the town could capitalize on my professional experience. As circumstance would have it, I was elected to the Legislative Council serving as vice-chairman, chairman of the education committee, liaison to the public safety committee (Garner Prison), and as a member of the ordinance and finance committees.

Now, I am looking forward to using my 17-plus years of working with law enforcement, as well as memberships in standing committees of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering, state committees, and town committees, to serve Newtown in a capacity that best fits my experience.

I thank those who have supported me and ask for your vote on Election Day. Regardless of how you cast your ballot, please vote.
