Art Auction-Fundraiser

Will Benefit Two Schools In Newtown

Merryhill Child Care Center, Inc. and Reed Intermediate School PTA, both non-profit organizations, are combining their efforts this year to host a gala art auction on Friday, November 5. The event will be at Fireside Inn, 123 Main Street South in Newtown.

Admission is $10 per person; tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.

The evening will start at 7 pm with a preview of the works of art to be auctioned. All of the art will be framed and ready to hang.

Admission includes door prizes, wine, hors d’oeuvres, dessert and coffee. Attendees can support either Merryhill or Reed with their purchases or they can support both schools with 50 percent of their purchases going to each school. This will be tracked by their bid numbers.

There will be a cash bar.

The auction house is Marlin Art, based in New York. The Marlin Collection has limited edition lithographs, serigraphs, giclees, original oils and watercolors by hundreds of artists including Robert Bateman, T. Ellis, LeRoy Neiman, Pierre Renoir, Norman Rockwell, Vadik Suljakov, Alexander Wissotsky, Charles Wysocki, Jane Wooster Scott, Rosenvain, Ferjo, Brodinksy and many more.

Marlin also offers a selection of sculpture, hand blown European glass, jewelry and sports memorabilia.

In addition to the professional prints that will be auctioned off, six paintings by the students of Merryhill will be available for sale. Each classroom (infant, toddler, and preschool) has created canvas paintings, which will also be framed for the auction.

“We emphasize the arts in our classrooms by providing many opportunities for the children to be creative,” said Cheri Ross, chairperson of the fundraising committee. “They draw, paint, color, and sculpt on a daily/weekly basis. It seemed only fitting for Merryhill and Reed to conduct a fundraiser that would bring art into the community, too.”

Merryhill will also auction off The Ultimate Bliss treatment from Avance Esthetiques.

Reed School will auction off some amazing “dream items” such as four tickets to a Yankees game including parking for 2005 season, golf for four and use of a cart at a country club in Waterbury, Unilock paving stones (an $800 value), detailing on a four-door sedan at Newtown Car Wash, and lunch for six children with Donna Denniston, the principal of Reed Intermediate School.

There will also be a number of raffle items available during the art auction event, which will benefit Reed Intermediate School.

Raffle tickets, at $2 each, will give purchasers a chance win a custom 18-inch pillow from Newtown Curtain, a Trader Joe’s gift basket, a ceramic platter with vase from Truly Yours, $100 Savings Bond from Union Savings Bank, two Oral-B Professional Care Units, a floral-type candy arrangement from Candy Bouquet, and a $50 photographic art print from Impressions Photography.

Several door prizes will be presented during the evening.
