Letters Of Endorsement
To the Editor:
Every two years we get the chance to choose our first selectman. (I am sure Bridgeport voters wish they had not changed their charter to a four-year term for mayor.) Unfortunately, we Republicans, me among them, failed to nominate a candidate for first selectman two years ago, so the current first selectman might just as well have had a four-year term. It is long enough.
This year, however, the Republicans have nominated a superior candidate in the person of Owen Carney. Owen may not be as well-known as the current first selectman, but from first-hand experience I can say he is thoughtful and determined. He has shown excellent judgment in this campaign. Voters who know him tell me they will vote for him over the incumbent.
Owenâs most noticeable characteristic is that when he says he will do something, he does it. We need that kind of energy and diligence. A vote for Owen Carney for First Selectman will ensure that Newtown marches forward in the 21st Century, instead of just drifting where the wind currents blow.
Very truly yours,
Robert H. Hall
