Friends In A Time Of Need

To the Editor:

On Tuesday, October 21, my daughter Amber was involved in a car accident. She was heading to the high school on Route 34 when a car swerved into her lane, hitting her broadside. Thankfully she wasn’t hurt but she was very frightened. I want to publicly thank all those who came to her aid. To the police who were quick to respond, took over the traffic, and sorted out the whole mess. I also want to thank Sandy Hook Fire Department who helped to bring calm to a hysterical 16-year-old. One wonderful saint (I didn’t get his name) sat behind Amber and just held her head and talked to her. The firefighters were highly skilled and knew exactly what to do in a way that Amber knew she was in good hands.

Thank you also to Newtown Ambulance! They also kept Amber calm. They talked to her and even joked with her all the way to the hospital. Ken (I forgot his last name) was especially wonderful. He poked his head in at the hospital to say goodbye and wish her luck. I find it amazing that both the fire department and ambulance service are manned by volunteers. These incredibly, selfless people constantly help strangers in the most difficult times and are not even paid!

I also want to thank the two angels that stayed with Amber the whole time. They talked to her and called me at home. Thank you Shelly Kotula and Jen from Charter Ridge (I forgot her last name, too, but I will never forget her kindness). You are both very special people! Thanks also to my friend Marsha who appeared out of nowhere just when I needed a little calming myself. Happily Amber is fine thanks to so many special people!
