Does the current selectman deserve another two years? Does he represent all the people of Newtown? The answer is no. He reduced the town part of the budget by five percent and together with the Legislative Counsel did not resist the BOE’s ten percent demand. By reducing the town budget by five percent only means that there was too much money left over from last year.

An editorial by The Bee explained in detail how binding arbitration allows the exploitation of the taxpayer. Did everybody read it and understand it? Did the selectman go to Hartford to review the statutes for binding arbitration? Who applied this mindless system whereby the towns taxpayer can be taxed according to their ability to pay? Is everybody rich in Newtown? Why do we have to go to a town meeting after the budget fails twice? What services do we get for our tax money?

The budget fails. The selectman gives the seniors a larger tithe, a political play that may dupe the seniors to vote for him November 4, 2003. Each year the seniors problems continue to increase as taxes and everyday costs escalate. Do they have a union to represent them? Do they get large increases and medical benefits every year? Parents are now beginning to feel the tax increases. The $40 club fee imposed by the BOE on their children became a huge issue.

Creeping socialism is a system that destroys the spirit and the mind. It takes away freedoms and liberties. The town will now take pictures of your home. Why? We need change, new ideas, and new management. The town needs a computer system whereby people can tap into all town information from their homes.
