CWU Invites All To World Community Day Celebration
CWU Invites All To World Community Day Celebration
In November, women across the country will gather in groups to celebrate Church Women Unitedâs World Community Day 2008.
Many CWU local and state units have long histories of involvement in prison ministry. Based on the theme âGodâs Wisdom Sets Us Free,â the November service will call on attendees to look at the struggles in their own lives while reflecting on how they are called to minister to one another.
The Newtown unit of Church Women United will join with Danburyâs CWU unit to co-present a service at Danbury Library on Sunday, November 9. The Reverend Dr Bruce Chilton, an ordained Episcopal priest currently rector of the Church of St John the Evangelist in Barrytown, N.Y., will be the afternoonâs speaker.
Dr Chilton is also the author of the recent release, Abrahamâs Curse: The Roots of Violence in Judaism, Christianity and Islam (Doubleday).
Taking a look at the âGolden Ruleâ as exemplified in different religions will offer the opportunity to look at commonalities rather than differences. The celebration will explore how anyone can reach out with Godâs wisdom and love to those behind bars, whether made of steel or of human limitations.
All are welcome. Danbury Library is at 170 Main Street in Danbury, at the corner of West Street.
For information about the celebration, contact Darlene Jackson, president of the CWU-Newtown unit, at 426-5192.
