Dan Cragin Earns Eagle Scout Status
Daniel K. Cragin was awarded the Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America on October 19. Dan is a member of BSA Troop 70 and is the troopâs senior patrol leader. The senior patrol leader is the highest youth leadership position in the troop, and is the primary link between the troop scouts and the adult leaders.
In preparing for Eagle Scout, Dan completed all the rank advancements in Scouting. In addition, Dan earned 35 merit badges, which includes the 11 required for Eagle Scout. He completed more than 200 hours of service projects and held different leadership positions in the troop. In all, Dan completed approximately 325 different requirements.
Dan has camped more than 100 days and nights with Troop 70. He is the first scout in Troop 70 history to earn the Religious Award Al Altare Dei for Roman Catholic Scouts. During his scouting career, Dan was awarded the Year Round Camper Award.
During the Eagle Court of Honor, Dan addressed his fellow scouts, family, and friends. During his comments, he thanked the adult leaders and his parents, who have supported and encouraged his scouting career. Dan was also a Tiger Scout and Cub Scout from Pack 70.
He made mention that his father, Kevin Cragin, also earned his Eagle Scout Award with Troop 70 and that he is very proud to be the first father and son Eagle Scouts in Troop 70âs history. Troop 70, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, is Newtownâs oldest Boy Scout troop.
Dan is a junior at Newtown High School and is involved in a number of youth organizations in Newtown. He is also a member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.
He is the son of Kevin and Kathy Cragin of Newtown.
