Newtown High Schoolâs girlsâ cross country team placed fourth among 20 teams and its five top finishers were among the fastest 46 of 141 runners at Saturdayâs CIAC Class LL Championship Cross Country Race at Wickham Park in Manchester. The NHS boys were 12th among 22 teams on the 5K course.
Glastonbury won the girlsâ race with 28 points. Newtown had 174 points. Glastonburyâs Kristen Malloy finished in 18:34 (6:00 pace). Newtownâs Anne Martino was 15th overall in 20:22, with a pace of 6:35. Katie Burns was 33rd (21:02), Mara Scallon was 35th (21:06), Natalie Villa placed 45th (21:26), Erin Begg was 46th (21:27), Scarlett OâSullivan was 72nd (22:15) and Danni Villa was 83rd (22:32).
In the boysâ race, Danbury took top honors with 44 points. Newtown had 371. Sheltonâs Richard Stoliker led the field of 156 runners in a time of 16:19 (a pace of 5:16). Newtownâs Alex DiNoto was 36th in a time of 17:35 (5:41 pace), Dave Meyer was 62nd in 17:59, Austin Baldour was 68th in 18:05, Tucker Grose was 100th in 18:51, Adam Schankman was 105th in 19:01, Andrew LaMarche was 107th in 19:08 and Erik Hoffman was 109th in 19:09.
