Ruth Newquistâs Art To Be Featured
At Booth Library In November
âUrban and Suburban Paintingsâ will be the next collection of art to be featured in the Olga Knoepke Memorial Room at C.H. Booth Library. A collection of paintings by the Newtown artist Ruth Newquist, a signature artist of the National Watercolor Society, will be on view for the full month of November.
The public is invited to meet Mrs Newquist during her opening reception and celebration on Saturday, November 8, from 2 to 4 pm.
Having received  awards for both watercolor and oil paintings, Ruth Newquist has continued to enliven urban and suburban scenes for us all. A lifelong love of art with a focus on color, which creates the mood of a painting , has been a journey taken since childhood.
She attended Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, earning a BFA while studying with eminent painters Ranulph Bye, Reginald Marsh and Frank Reilly. She also attended the Art Students League in New York City.
Since each of her paintings creates its own mood, SoHo cityscapes as well as urban and suburban landscapes, Mrs Newquistâs work shines with distinction. In addition to her National Watercolor Society membership, she has been awarded an artist membership in the Catharine Lorrilard Wolf Art Club and  Allied Artists of America in New York City.
She is  additionally an artist member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City, North Shore Art Association in Gloucester, Mass., and Connecticut Watercolor Society.
Additional  awards include the highest watercolor award in the Salmagundi Club Annual Membership Exhibition, and the Thomas C. Picard Award for oil painting in the 2002 Salmagundi Club Annual Membership Exhibition.
In 1999, Mrs Newquist was featured on the âWatercolor Pagesâ in American Artist magazine. She is also represented in best of Watercolor III, a hard cover book published by North Light Books in  2006.
Mrs Newquist exhibits her paintings throughout New England, Pennsylvania, New  York City and the West Coast. Just last month she was celebrated with a one-artist show during the 2008 Kent Art Association Elected Artists Art Show after being named the winner of the Dines Carlson Medal of Merit Award for Best in Show during the associationâs 2007 Presidentâs Show. A presentation in the KAA Galleryâs Aiken Room offered two dozen of the artistâs favorites oils and watercolors of urban and suburban scenes.
