The Newtown High School freshman boysâ cross country team ended the season on a high note by taking first place at the Fairfield Prep Freshman Invitational, recently. Newtown scored 35 points beat runner-up Fairfield Prep by 55 points.
The Newtown runners were Palmer Lintz (second overall), Patrick Sullivan (third), David Lucia (fourth), Dietter Gutbrod (eighth), John Hull (18th) and Jimmy Russo (63rd). Although he lost a shoe with more than a quarter of a mile left in the race, David Lucia managed to hold onto fourth place by sprinting to the finish with only a sock on his left foot.
The freshman boys took first place at the Bethel Invitational on September 20 and second at the Wickham Park Invitational earlier this month. The team is coached by David Foss.
