After School Programs

For Middle Schoolers

Newtown Youth Services and Newtown Health & Fitness will offer after school programs beginning the week of November 15th for students in grades 6 through 8.

Three programs will be offered at the Newtown Health and Fitness facility on Commerce Road. On Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4 to 5 pm, a Girls’ Circuit Training Program will be offered, including a cardio cycling class done to music on Mondays, and on Wednesdays more cardiovascular activities such as jump rope, power boards, “tire runs,” and aerobics patterns.

For Boys, a Circuit Training Program will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, also from 4 to 5 pm, with cardiovascular activities on Tuesdays for strength and endurance, and the Thursday class focusing on strength training using resistance tubing, dumbbells, body bars and steps.

The cost for these five-week programs is $50, payable to Newtown Health & Fitness. Classes will run from November 15 to December 17, with classes limited to 12 students and a minimum of 8.

The third class to be offered at Newtown Health and Fitness will be a golf instruction course, limited to groups of four students. The class will include instruction in swing, chipping, and putting. Golf Pro Bill Flood from Rock Ridge Country Club will teach this course, which will meet twice a week for five weeks, November 15 to December 17, 4 to 5 pm. Cost for the course is $150, payable to Newtown Health & Fitness. Equipment will be provided.

The fourth After School Program is Homework Club, offered free of charge at Youth Services for students in grades 6 through 8. This program will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, November 15 to December 15, 4 to 5 pm. High School tutors will help middle schoolers learn study skills, how to get organized, and how to complete their homework on time every time. A snack will be provided.

Finally, due to popular demand, the Holiday Arts & Crafts class will be held on six Tuesdays, from November 16 through December 21, from 4 to 5 pm. Students will be able to use a variety of materials to make projects each week that can be given to friends and family members as gifts during the holidays. Materials fee: $15. Class is limited to 10 students.

To register for any of these programs, please call Youth Services at 270-4335.
