Letters of Endorsement

To the Editor:

I support Joe Borst for selectman. He will bring the clarity of vision we need to develop a long range plan that will allow us to build the things we need for our future, prioritized by the people, and implemented as we can afford. We currently spend $100 million per year without a long term vision (other than the FFH master plan — which was initially rejected by voters). Joe has been part of Newtown’s intellectual leadership that has called for long range planning for the nine years that I have served on the Building Commission (a commission of which Joe has been chairman). It’s time to write a new chapter in Newtown’s history with Joe Borst leading the way.

And I support the IPN for Legislative Council in my district (#3) primarily because they support long range planning. But also, our Republican and Democrat parties have become too complacent in embracing new members with new ideas. A successful IPN this year will force the Ds and Rs to become more competitive in capturing the hearts and minds of our voters and will inspire new voices from our rich pool of talent to join in the political process. I support my friend Bob Mulholland for Planning & Zoning. Bob has served with me as vice-chairman of the Building Commission for several years and as an alternate with P&Z. I’ve gotten to know that Bob shares my philosophical views on long range planning and cares about protecting Newtown’s character. I also support my friend and neighbor Donna Monteleone Randle for the two year vacancy on the Board of Education. I hope you will take the extra effort and write her name in (I think on line 7). She is passionate and driven about education and will serve us well.

Sincerely,

Bill Furrier,

Chairman of the Public Building

& Site Commission
