ANTIQUES AT THE PIERS

NEW YORK CITY — Both New Yorkers with rustic country houses and those with sophisticated New York apartments shop at Antqiues @ the Piers, January 22 and 23, during Americana Week in New York.

Although the emphasis is on folk art and Americana, every category of antiques collecting will be well represented among the 350 dealers. Unlike the November and March events, the show will open early, 10 am on both days, to permit visitors to easily get to the other shows and auctions. Each category has an entire pier devoted to it: folk art and Americana on Pier 90 and European, traditional and Twentieth Century furniture and decorative arts, Pier 88.

This innovative January show will offer “made in America” collectibles not usually thought of as Americana, such as Tiffany lamps and accessories, modern art glass, Art Deco artifacts, fashion and jewelry of the 1930s through 1960s, American art pottery, Bakelite, kitchenware, postcards and ephemera. But these “not usually termed Americana” items will not outnumber the exhibits of American furniture, fine art, good quilts, formal furniture, English porcelains, stoneware, decoys and weathervanes.

Customers can see and buy at an E-Preview online beginning at 7 pm Friday, January 21, at www.stellashows.com. Clients will then be able to contact dealers through email, stellashows@aol.com, or the show office to discuss a purchase.

Both Piers 88 and 90 open and close at the same hours, 10 am to 5 pm. Stella Show Mgmt Co., will provide free shuttle buses to midtown, Antiques @ the Armory (another Stella show), The Winter Antiques Show and TAAS. Admission to Antiques @ the Piers is $15. Children under 16 are admitted free.
