Women’s Club Shares History, Welcomes Members To Tea

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc hosted a membership tea on October 11 in the Olga Knoepke Memorial Meeting Room at the library.

The purpose of the meeting was to bring information about the General Federation of Women’s Clubs to interested women in the community and also to present information to the newest members of Newtown Woman’s Club. In attendance were three members who joined in September and October — Jean Conover, Pat McCarthy, and Paulette Ruggiero — and prospective members Eve Donigian and Jere Vockins, as well as NWC board members and department chairmen.

The program presented included a video explaining the history of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs from its beginning in 1890 to the recent present. Board members and department chairmen explained the history and structure of Newtown Woman’s Club, which was founded in 1968 and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in March 2008.

Newtown Woman’s Club is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Connecticut and GFWC International, dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
