Stephen J. Skudlarek, Sr, 92, of Milford, beloved husband of Mary Maguire Skudlarek for 66 years, died October 30. He was born in Southport, December 26, 1921, to Joseph and Josephine Short Skudlarek.

Survivors include his brothers John Skudlarek of Newtown and Thomas Skudlarek of Pennsylvania; children Stephen J. “Jack” Skudlarek, Jr, and wife Pamela, of Milford and Patricia S. LaZette, and husband Russell Avery, of Shelton; one grandson, Stephen John Skudlarek III, and several nieces and nephews. His brothers, Joseph and Leon Skudlarek, and sisters Ann Durica and Pauline Michlewski predeceased Mr Skudlarek.

Mr Skudlarek proudly served his country in World War II in the Army Medical Corps. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater, mostly at Kwajalein, in the Marshall Islands.

He moved to Milford in 1948, when he was married. He worked at Raybestos for more than 40 years as an analyst, supervisor, and later as a general foreman. He was also a member of the quarter century club at Raybestos. He was a member of the St Ann 50+ Club and of the St Ann Men’s League, and was also active in the Milford Senior Center.

As a young man, Mr Skudlarek played shortstop for the Raybestos Cardinals. He was an avid golfer and a loyal Red Sox fan. He and his family were thrilled when he got to see the Red Sox “win it all” not only once, but three times.

A funeral service took place November 3 in the Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, Milford. Interment was in St Mary Cemetery, Milford, with full military honors.
