Nighthawk Volleyball Team Headed To Championship Match

Update: The SWC championship match is at neutral site Bethel High on Saturday, November 6 at 6 pm. Newtown will play Weston.

Newtown High School's girls' volleyball team advanced to the South-West Conference Tournament championship match with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-16) win over visiting Pomperaug of Southbury in the November 3 semifinals.

The Nighthawks will take on either Weston or Joel Barlow of Redding at a site and time to be determined on Saturday, November 4. Weston is the top seed and the only SWC foe Newtown did not defeat during its strong season and run to earn the second seed in the tournament.

In the win over Pomperaug, Delia Clouden had six of Newtown's 20 aces to go along with 12 kills; Zosia Teraszkiewicz compiled a trio of aces, 11 kills, 14 assists, and four digs; Amaro Beard-Galati had seven kills; Chloe O'Connell had three aces and 11 digs; Keyera Smith had three aces, six kills, and 19 digs; Lauren Young had three aces and five kills; and Shannon Muckell had two aces, 25 assists, and ten digs.

NHS defeated Masuk of Monroe in the quarterfinals. The Hawks have won 14 consecutive matches.
