A Clear Choice For The 107th

To the Editor:

October in Connecticut brings out all the autumn colors. Not just the leaves, but the various colors of all the political signs scattered around town. One sign color that is noticeably less prominent this year is the bold MAGA red. Republican candidates across the region have instead almost uniformly replaced the once familiar red with a white backdrop to display an image of disassociation with the former president.

Gray may be a more suitable color for Republicans this year. It matches a gray timid vagueness in many of their responses to issues. On abortion many speak an incoherent mumbling about how Roe is precedent, or it is set law, which is eerily reminiscent to the responses from the last two Supreme Court nominees during their confirmation hearings. Of course, we all know how that worked out. These days I worry that every elected Republican is expected to always follow the party line.

Phoebe Holmes is the candidate for the 107th seat who has consistently been forthright with the voters of Brookfield, Stony Hill Bethel and northwest Newtown. We know she wants to support women’s reproductive rights, is a business owner pushing to reinvigorate the economy, strengthen gun control and promote climate action. And yes, her signs are a Democratic blue.

Her opponent went as far as to skip the only scheduled debate rather than tell the voters exactly what his positions are — and all his public quotes in these areas have been ... very gray. It is a candidate’s duty to stand up and show their true colors.

Phoebe Holmes is the clear choice for the 107th.
