At The Library––

Evening Book Group Will Discuss

Barack Obama Memoir

The evening book discussion group at the CH Booth Library will meet on Thursday, November 17, at 7:30 pm to discuss the book Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama.

The book was written in 1995 before the election of Barack Obama to the Illinois Senate and before his famous keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention. Since his election to office, the book is enjoying a resurgence in popularity.

Dreams From My Father recounts Senator Obama’s memories of growing up in Hawaii, the son of a black man and white woman. He discusses trying to come to grips with his racial identity, a period of rebellion that included drug use, traveling to Africa, and becoming a community activist in Chicago.

Throughout the book, the senator looks at race from the point-of-view of someone who has seen and been part of a variety of cultures, and he explains how his personal perspective shaped his views.

Anyone with an interest in this book is welcome to join the evening book group for discussion and fellowship. Multiple copies of the book are available to borrow at the library. Call 426-4533 with any questions.
