Next WSO Concert Will Celebrate Four Composers

WATERBURY — Waterbury Symphony Orchestra will perform its next concert on Sunday, November 20, at 3 pm, at the Fine Arts Center at Naugatuck Valley Community College, 750 Chase Parkway.

The program includes music of the four B’s — Bernstein, Barber, Beethoven and Bartok. Selections include the bubbling Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein, the lush, romantic Music for a Scene from Shelley by Samuel Barber, the buoyant Piano Concerto No. 1 by Beethoven, and Bartok’s colorful and gripping musical tale of murder and intrigue, Miraculous Mandarin Suite.

Pianist Wonny Song will be the guest soloist for the Beethoven piece.

Dr Richard Gard, music program coordinator of NVCC and a successful composer, performer, producer and conductor, will present a pre-concert lecture about the works on the afternoon’s program at 2:30 pm in the Black Box Theater, adjacent to the main stage at the Fine Arts Center. The lecture is free to those attending the concert.

Single tickets for the concert are $40 for preferred seating and $25 for reserved seating. A special discounted student ticket is available for $5.

Subscription packages for the three concert series at Naugatuck Valley Community College, including the November 20, January 15, and March 5 concerts, are still available by calling the WSO at 203-574-4283.
