What Halloween Is All About

To the Editor:

Hi, my name is Christine Bardelli. I used to live in Newtown and always enjoyed trick-or-treating down historical Main Street.

I decided this year I would go back to what Halloween is all about. They really take Halloween to a different level. I want to share a little story about my son, Joey, on Halloween night.

Joey, who is 7 years old, was getting ready next door at my mom’s house, taking a very long time. Finally about two hours later he comes home to get ready to dress up. I was about to reprimand him for taking so long, when he showed me a plastic bag with about 30 handmade ghosts inside. He said he made these ghosts to give back to the people that are giving something to him. So we went on our journey of trick-or-treating and I would say about eight out of the 30 houses we hit were so touched by his gesture, the rest didn’t understand. But he didn’t care what the reaction was. He got more satisfaction from giving than receiving, he was more concerned that he wouldn’t have enough ghosts to go around.

To me, I think this is what it is all about.

Sincerely,

Christine Bardelli
