AARP Seeks Tax Counselors

There is still time to volunteer for AARP Connecticut’s Tax-Aide program for the next tax season.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Tax-Aide is a free, confidential service run by volunteers who prepare federal and state tax returns. The service is offered to middle- and low-income people of all ages, with special attention to people 60 and older.

About 500 volunteers in Connecticut prepare taxes for tax-aide at more than 100 sites in the state; more are needed.

Volunteers do not need to be a member of AARP, nor do they need to be a retiree, but they do need to pass an exam given by the Internal Revenue Service. New volunteers will be trained by the IRS in conjunction with AARP.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer tax aide should Email ctvoltaxaide@juno.com. Provide your name, address, and telephone number. Applications are being accepted through mid-November.
