Blood Drive Features UConn Tickets
FARMINGTON â The American Red Cross, Connecticut Blood Services Region is teaming up with WTIC-AM 1080/ UConn Radio Network to invite all eligible blood donors to âGet in the Game and Give Blood.â
As of Monday, November 8, one prize pack, including UConn branded items, will be given away each week for the duration of the UConn Womenâs Basketball regular season. Six of the prize packs will include a pair of prime seats to see the 2004 NCAA three-time defending champion UConn Women Huskies defend their title at either the Hartford Civic Center, or at Gampel Pavilion, Storrs.
âThis is a win-win opportunity for blood donors and the Red Cross,â said Dr Richard Benjamin, interim chief executive officer of the American Red Cross, Connecticut Blood Services Region. âThe basketball season runs along the same time that blood donations begin to decline due to cold weather and holidays. This promotion will provide some lucky blood donors with the chance to see Connecticutâs national champions in action and to help increase awareness about the importance of donating blood regularly.â
Donating blood is safe, easy and only takes about an hour. The next blood drive in Newtown will take place on Monday, November 15, from 8:30 am to 6:45 pm at Trinity Church on Main Street.
More information about the contest is posted at www.bloodct.org.
Anyone who is 17 or older, weighs 110 pounds or more and is in generally good health, probably is eligible to donate blood. Call 800-GIVE LIFE (800-448-3543) to make an appointment for any blood drive in Connecticut. Appointments may also be requested by visiting the website at www.bloodct.org. Donors must provide positive identification at the time of donation.
