Gottmeier Promoted To Major

The US Army has announced the promotion of William C. Gottmeier to the rank of major. Major Gottmeier is a 1989 graduate of Newtown High School and the son of Lt Col (Ret) and Mrs R.P. Bottmeier of Sandy Hook.

Major Gottmeier graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1994 with a degree in environmental science. Currently he is assigned to the 3/306th Infantry Regiment as the active Army team chief for training in support of the 48th Brigade, Mechanized Infantry of the George Army National Guard.

His military decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and Armed Forces Service Ribbon.

In addition, he has been awarded the Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Wings, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, and the National Infantry Association Centurion Medal. His foreign decorations include the Federal Republic of Germany’s Parachute Wings and the Soldier’s Gold Medal.

Major Gottmeier, his wife Heather, and their two children live in Dahlonega, Ga.
