Orienteering Meet In Newtown Next Weekend
Orienteering Meet In Newtown
Next Weekend
The public is invited to join members of Western Connecticut Orienteering Club for its next meet at Paugussett State Forest, Sunday, November 14. Participants should access the forestâs trail from Dingle Brook Road in Newtown.
Gari Williams of Middlefield will be setting up the event. Participants will use an orienteering map and a compass to find their way across the terrain, seeking orange and white flags at various land features. The features are marked on the map and act as checkpoints along the course.
Participants decide on the route to the feature and punch a score card to confirm finding the flag.
In orienteering as a competition, the winner punches all the flags in the shortest time. At Paugusett, all standard courses, from beginner to expert, will be available. Instruction compasses and training will also be available for beginners.
Cost is $6 per person, and registration will be ongoing from 10 am until noon. Participants can start their trek between those hours as well. For information contact Mr Williams at 860-349-3799 or GariAndTina@hotmail.com.
